Plenary lecture:

Volker Haucke (Leibniz-FMP, Berlin, Germany)

Volker Haucke studied biochemistry in Berlin and did his PhD in Basel under the supervision of Prof. Dr. G. Schatz. He then moved to Yale University as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Pietro De Camilli where he significantly contributed to the understanding of synaptotagmin-driven clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Then he came back as an independent junior research group leader at the University of Göttingen and finally moved to the Freie Universität of Berlin where he has been Director of the FMP, Professor of Pharmacology at the Freie Universität of Berlin and a member of the NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence since 2012. He is an international leader in molecular cell biology and neuroscience and has been awarded numerous scientific prizes, including the Feldberg Prize 2020. His work has been in numerous prestigious and high-impact journals such as Science, Nature and Neuron. The current research of Volker Haucke is focused on the visualisation and manipulation of the endocytic machinery and of endosomal membrane organisation. This is achieved through the use of a combination of biochemical, genetic, chemical and optical imaging approaches with a particular focus on the nervous system. His plenary lecture will concentrate on his latest research on the function of distinct phosphoinositide species in the regulation of endocytosis, during endosomal sorting and recycling, in lysosome function, and during lysosomal nutrient signaling.
